The largest set of powerful muscles are the quads. This muscle set spans from the hip to the knees on the front of the thigh, and has the ability to act as a knee extender and hip flexor, which is why people often feel quad pain when walking. The quads are made up of four muscles, namely the rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, and vast intermediates. The strains and quad pain when walking involve micro-tears within these muscles; cramping and tightness can accordingly be felt in cases when the quads are not performing properly or are injured. The frequently injured portion of the quad muscles is the rectus femoris because of its anterior location, wherein quad pain therapy treatment is recommended.
There are different kinds of quad injuries that can occur such as:
Leg pains can take the shape of overuse injuries, strains, and ruptures. Quad pain when walking can happen either in the muscle belly itself or at the end portion of the muscle. These strains which one may experience usually develop due to overuse, overexertion and are commonly felt by athletes who are engaged in frequent muscle stress by extending the knee, especially for cyclists and runners. The frequent stress has the tendency to cause quad pain when walking and failure at the junction in between the muscles and its tendons, and has the possibility to progress to muscle tears, wherein quad pain therapy treatment should be undergone. This condition which brings quad pain when walking affects the quadriceps tendon, which is just above the knee and is usually a direct result of repeated stress when performing multiple jumps. In cases when the pain is felt more towards the hips within the muscle belly, it is highly probable that you have a partial tear of the muscle itself and quad pain therapy treatment will be helpful. This quad pain can be made worse when extending the knee.
Contusions – The most common quad injuries are contusions, which can be the result of a blunt force to the thigh from an object, a direct blow, or falling into an object. These contusions have the tendency to cause tissue damage and bruising, and often occur in contact sports wherein the participants collide and have to take a knee or helmet to the quad; in these cases quad pain therapy treatment is necessary. The pain can be elicited by mere touch or any other movement of the knee such as quad pain when walking, and the pain is constant.
Muscle hernias – These can be caused by forceful and sudden movement such as kicking, colliding with an object mid-sprint, or breaking into a sprint. An individual will be at a greater risk of developing quad pain when walking or a muscle hernia with a weakened or compromised muscle, especially if they fail to undergo proper quad pain therapy treatment.
In most cases, a soft mass can be felt, which is generally tender to the touch.
KT tape has the ability to help in quad pain therapy treatment and aid in relaxing the injured muscles, increasing the circulation within the area, as well as providing significant pain relief. KT tape, when used properly, is best combined with light progressive stretching, quad pain therapy treatment, administering ice after each activity, and adequate rest.
